2017 National Hunting and Fishing Day Celebration Report

The Puget Sound Knappers were invited by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to help celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day at Camp Pigott, WA.

National Hunting and Fishing Day, formalized by Congress in 1971, was created by the National Shooting Sports Foundation to celebrate the conservation successes of hunters and anglers.

"The free event is hosted by WDFW's Hunter Education Division and Volunteer Program. It is sponsored by WDFW, hunter education instructors, Master Hunters, the Washington Hunter Education Instructor's Association (WHEIA), Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians, Stonerose, Volterra Restaurants and Chef/Owner Don Curtis, Safari Club International (NW Chapter), the Mule Deer Foundation, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Trout Unlimited (Monroe Chapter), WA. Friends of the NRA (Grant), WA. Grand Lodge Medical Team, WA. Ornamental Game Bird Breeders, Puget Sound Knappers, the Chief Seattle Council, Boy Scouts of America, Shooting Sports Committee, and Camp Pigott."e; (WDFW)

From an overall perspective, this event was a tremendous success. And while 550 youngsters pre-registered, over 800 attended!

Members of the PSK provided knapping demonstrations and hands-on instruction for group after group of youngsters who participated in this event! And from our perspective it was also a great success, having the opportunity to work with hundreds of these youngsters!

And Camp Pigoot is an IDEAL place for this event! At 150 acres, it is "located at the foot of the Cascade Range, Camp Pigott features a large lake, a climbing tower, COPE courses (high and low), a spacious dining facility, beautiful new campfire bowl, plus all-new activities such as shotgun sports facilities, mountain bike skills course, and MUCH more. There is a modern central building with private showers, and each campsite features canvas tents on platforms or Adirondack shelters with bunks, and new flush toilet facilities. A great place for camping programs as well as rental groups."
